A bad memory outlasts a bad chat
A bad chat ends when you close the window. A bad memory stays and shows up in the next conversation, so it matters who can write to it.
A bad chat ends. A bad memory doesn't.
Imagine someone tricks your agent in a conversation. It follows a bad instruction, you notice, you close the window, and the damage ends with the conversation.
Now imagine they trick it into saving something. The bad line goes into memory, and next week a new conversation starts with that line already in it. Nobody is attacking anymore. The damage is still there.
Memory changes the stakes. Anything an agent writes down becomes something it trusts later, so it matters who can write to it and who can read it.
There is a quieter version too. Agents can repeat a true private fact in the wrong place, with no attacker at all.
That is why we keep SmartMemory on your own machine. Your memory is yours, we collect nothing, and the only people who can read or write it are the ones you let in.
Think of it as a diary with a lock, not a message board.
